Default sub making funny noise

I installed a 10" sub and an Orion amp in my trunk about 1 1/2 months ago. Everything worked fine. The other day I notice the sub has gone off on its own making bumping and thumping noises - no beat, just random noises. Sometimes I can turn it off and it's ok for awhile when it turns back on. 5 minutes later, it starts making funny noises again.

HU is an Alpine CDA9813. Power is via a 6 guage Nakamichi cable straight off battery, via quick burn 30 amp fuse. Ground is an 8 guage twisted cable. Amp is only about 200 watts. Sub is a new Sony 1036. Not burning any fuses.

All connections seem secure.

Any ideas?

Default Similar thing happened to me.

If it happens at the same level at all volume settings, it's probably your amp. Just had a Diamond E7 amp repaired for the same prob. Turned out to be a loose ground connection in the sub channel circuitry

Default Re: Is the sub conneted to the same sound source as the HU?

I'm not sure I follow your question. The sound lead to the amp is from the sub line-level output from the HU. The amp is bridged to supply single channel power to the sub. So, if I follow you, yes.

Both (HU and amp) get their power from the same connection to the battery. I use a common fuse holder near the battery and then separate the power leads. One to the HU, the other, heavier line to the amp.

Default Warranty $0.00

The Amp was an Esoteric Amp. Esoteric amps were bought out by Diamond Audio. Diamond honored the warranty even though they weren't obligated to. Stand up guys, that's one reason I went with Diamond Speakers in my new ride. I knew if there was a problem they'll stand behind their product.
