Default SVC or DVC Sub?

I am buying a subwoofer for my TT. I am going to connect it to a 4 channel amp. the front channel will power my two components. The rear channel of the amp I want to bridge for a single 8" subwoofer. The rear speakers on the TT i will run from the HU so thats not important.

In this scenario (bridge a single sub on a 4 channel amp).... should I go DVC or SVC and can you give me a brief why on it so i can understand better.

Thanks!

Default agreed, or you can get single voice coil 4 ohm

most amps are only 4 ohm stable when you bridge it. if you get a sub that runs at a lower resistance, you risk blowing/overheating the amp, if you get a sub that runs at a higher resistance, you wont get full power from the amp.

you can get a sub with a single 4 ohm voice coil , or a sub with dual 2 ohm voice and wire the coils in series to 4 ohm, or a sub with dual 8 ohm voice coils and wire them in parellel to 4 ohms. you want your final resistance to be 4 ohms.

Default So you saying I should buy a DVC sub?

If my amp bridges two of its channels to 250W RMS... how much power am I putting out if I install a SVC sub as compared to a DVC one.

Thx.

Default So you are saying its just easier to get a SVC sub?

Amp specs are 250W bridged at 4ohm. I am just installing a single sub... so if I buy a SVC sub... and bridge it... i am running it at the 250W RMS?

Default its not the number of voice coils that matters, its the final resistance

anytime u have a final resistance of 4 ohms you will get 250 wrms from the amp

to get final resistance of 4 ohms you can get

single voice coil 4 ohms
dual voice coils 2 ohms in series
dual voice coils 8 ohms in parellel.

either one of the options above will give you 250 wrms from your amp
