Got an '00 A6 4.2 with the Symphony HU. I'm willing to give up my steering wheel radio controls and factory NAV for a new head unit. Call me nuts.
I'm toying with a Nakamichi CD700II, a Clarion DRZ9255 and an Alpine CDA-7998. Anybody own these who could offer advice? For the record, I'm a Sound Quality (SQ) type. Already have a tube amp for the front stage and a 500-watter for the pair of JL 12" subs in a sealed box.

I can tell you that Nak is incredible, pretty sensitive though when going over harsh roads. Getting the laser realigned can be pricey.
I would (personally) vote for the Clarion. In fact, I would be happy to trade you my 945MP touchscreen with Dolby P2 for your nav unit
