Symphony on '02 A6, volume **** question???

I'm having a problem adjusting the volume with the volume **** on my symphony system; i.e. turn to the right one or two notches, volume doesn't always go up...(in fact sometimes it goes down)
Anyone have this problem, know how to fix it???
