The amp is running real hot after about 15mins and during some songs the cone makes some rattling type noises after it hits.. I have a feeling with the combination of curves and plexi I should have probably made the enclosure bigger.. As for it running hot, im not sure why.. At 4ohms the sub has a continuous handling power of 500watts while the amp is rated at 450watts @ 4ohms.. peak power for the sub is 1000 watts while the amp is 690watts..
Should I try a new sub? If so which one?
Requirments for a new sub..
-My amp can power the sub
* Amp Specs
Maximum Power Rating
690watts into a 4ohm Mono Load
345watts into a 2ohm Load
220watts into a 4ohm load
Continuous Power Rating
112.5watts RMS continuous Power per channel, both channels driven into a 4ohm load
225watts RMS continuous Power per channel, both channels driven into a 2ohm load
450watts RMS continuous Power into a 4ohm Load
-The sub also needs a low volume box (sealed)

Generally speaking sub amps run cooler than ones powering components, mainly because they're not in use all the time. Bass usually doesn't play continuously, so the amp isn't continuously going to draw an @$$load of power. The power draw is what causes the amp to heat up.
The first thing I'd check is your power connections...make sure they're good and that you have a GOOD ground...unpainted chassis...and have the ground as short as possible...
The other thing is the positioning of the amp, and the way the amp is designed to dissapate heat...read the manual and make sure it's to spec...
Other than that all I can suggest is get a fan or somethin...
The sound that the cone of the sub is making sounds like your spiders...you may be pushing the sub too hard...or like you said, the enclosure is too small....I'm not a box guru...but that's my 2 cents...
hope that helps...
