Default Is there such a thing as an auto-on 2-ch amp?

Everyone keeps telling me that I need to add amps to my 2001 non-bose A4 if I want to upgrade the front speakers. I keep saying that I am not going into the dash or stringing wires all over the car.

There is one other option. If I could get auto-on amps I could put them in the doors. I would run the crossover into the two channels on the amp, thereby amping the components seperately. They wouldn't have to be large powerful amps and should fit in the door. I would only need to run always-on power to the doors.

Thoughts?

Default I have mine under the seats (for door speakers)

for all my "auto-on" amps, crossovers, caps, i have tapped the remote wire (auto-on) from the rear harness that used to be connected to the OEM rear speaker amp. check FAQ for wiring.

Default I am trying to bypass that wire.

I want to run power, ground, and music signal wires only. I want the amp to turn itself on when it detects music playing. I want to mount it inside the door so that I don't have to run any wires other than power. I guess I can make a circuit to provide that function, but I was hoping that it was offered on some amps.

thanks,

Default I don't think they make those.

i see two options here....either run a remote wire (which you can get to in the trunk or the dash). or you can find out from the amp manufacturer how much current the remote input can handle, then use a resistor to trick the remote lead into being on all the time.

THIS MIGHT DRAIN THE BATTERY when the car is off.

Default Actually, they do.

MTX Thunder and JBL Pro Series are both available with auto-sensing built in. $200 for a 2-ch, obviously on the high end of the quality scale.
