Default Thought i'd ask here too. Anyone wanna help me figure out my sub install problem?

Allright, here's the deal.

I have the stock non-bose system in my 2002.

I tapped into remote turn-on for the stock amp, as well as postive and negative wires going to stock sub.

I ran pos. and neg. wires to a line converter.

I grounded both line converter and amp to a good ground under the back seat, and grabbed power from the power distribution block (a 4 gauge wire that runs directly from the battery to behind the fuse block)

When i turn radio on, amp turns on (LED lights up) but i get NO sound.

Line converter has adjustable pots, but running them through their whole range doesn't change a thing.

It's a stereo amp (xtant 202m) which i'm bridging to mono to drive a single JLAudio 15W0.

I'm pretty sure my wire taps are allright, but how could i test them? would hooking up a multimeter to them and setting it to record AC voltage at least show me if there's a signal?

What would be YOUR next step in troubleshooting?

I appreciate any help!

Default Update:

Plugged portable cd player in....amp and sub combo kicks out MUCHO bass...works great

Hooked multimeter up to output of line converter on AC Voltage...don't get a signal...so therefore is my problem.

The line converter i got from a Tweeter etc. and it has instructions which say to hook speaker wires (up to 55 watts) up to it, ground it, and then run RCA outs to your amplifier...so it HAS to be the right thing...no?

Sounds to me like my wire taps might not be good....but it's AWFUL to get back there and get at them!

Wonder how i can test them....

Oh yeah, and with portable cd player hooked up, and bass going, the trunk rattles like there's NO TOMORROW! What gives? i thought audi's might be built tighter than that! sounds like it's rattling right underneat the trunk...

Default Did you also replace your front components?

I hope you plan on it because that sub will drown out the sound of the stock speakers..Although it doesn't matter as long as it sounds good to you.

Default It works! by god it works!

Woo hoo!

Turns out my "wire taps" weren't tapping at all!

I re-did the sub output taps and i'm good to go!

Thanks everyone, i really appreciate it.

Now to figure out how to stop rattles!
