Upgrading the Subwoofer. Is there any such thing...
...as an after market subwoofer custom made to be an exact fit into the factory space using the factory connections, etc? I'm wondering mainly about the 2001 A6 and A8.

Finally something i can answer =D
They don't make a subwoofer that is made to fit an Audi A6/8. But due to the growing popularity in car audio systems the selection of speakers has greatly increased. For example making 12" subs that are extremly shallow so as to fit in a single cab pickup etc. I am every sure that there is a subwoofer that would fit in the stock space. But as with most audi's you will probably have to replace wiring, stock head unit, stock amp, and surrounding speakers. If you need more info or a better explaination just ask. I hope this helped!

Maybe an option..
They do make a shallow mount 8" sub, Pioneer I think? That might work as I've heard the stock sub is an 8" and there isn't a ton of room there.
Personally, I look at that as mid bass, add a 10" to the truck and you should have a nice sound stage.
