Default Well, I've started my B7 non-Bose audio upgrade. (small bww)

I was trying not to do it, but the stock system is so terrible I can't take it. This was the first car that I've ever owned with a stock stereo system that I tried to leave alone. Oh well...

I'm having TeddyBGame make me a custom wiring harness to keep my stock head unit while adding front and rear rca's, an amp trigger, and the ability to ground the Bose pin. I've already ordered new front component speakers which are a set of A/D/S 346cs. I'm going to run the front components off an Alpine F450 amp (70wrms x 4 @ 4 ohms) and I plan to run a 12" Alpine Type-R sub with an Alpine M650 amp (600wrms x 1 @ 2 ohms). The sub will be in a custom made (by me) fiberglass enclosure similar to this one:

So far I've removed the stock sub (what a MONSTER):

<img src="http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/6850Stock_Sub_2.JPG">

I've also removed the plastic bracket on the left side of the trunk where the cubby and XM module are located:

I'm going to start wiring the car and fabing the fiberglass enclosure over the Thankgiving holiday. My new equipment is set to arrive on 11-27, so the final install will happen the following weekend.

I hope all goes well. I've never worked with fiberglass before, but www.a4mods.com has a great writeup with pics (for a B6).

Default I just listened to the stereo with no sub, and if I didn't know better , I'd tell you it's still

playing. I saw avincar make this statement in the past, but I didn't want to believe it. I do now! There is almost no audible difference with the stock sub removed.

PS. I even used some rap (Chamillionaire) to check. ;P

Default I used the writeup for the B6 in this linked web site as a guide. The B7 is only slightly

different, so it was easy. About half way down the first page he tells you how to take everything apart. I always hate taking cars apart the first time. After that it's just fine of course.<ul><li><a href="http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page=webcontent/pages/subbox.html">http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page=webcontent/pages/subbox.html</a</li></ul>

Default Will do! I want to try and take the mystery out of upgrading the stereos on these cars. I can at

least do that. Of course I get the benefit a great sounding stereo as well.

Default I think I have a great plan to cheat a little with how the sub enclosure will be formed and its

mounting. I'll reveal that secret next week when I actually get started.

Default I have already upgraded my stereo, but...

planning to do the fiberglass sub encouse in the spring, and clean up wires, mount amp rack, etc., so I plan to take pics of the process as well.

I used a Rockford 3Sixty.2 so I didn't need a harness behind the factory stereo, just clipped wires before they entered the doors and ran wires to 3Sixty.2 unit, then from the unit to the amps via RCA's, and then back to factory wires to new speakers etc.

Sound deadening the doors next.

Springtime will help with taking the pics!

Default What do you have for equipement besides the 3Sixty.2? What are you planning for the amp rack?

I think my amp rack will be located under the rear deck. I'm going to try to keep my trunk as open as possible. Too many years of having no trunk because of sub boxes and amps.
