Default sealed gives you tighter more controlled bass, while ported is usually more boomy

it all depends on your music preference. if you're big into rap type music (and want the bass to be heard outside the car) then ported is good to bump with. on the other hand, ported enclosures almost always require a lot more space. if you want clarity, stick with seal boxes. these days they can get real small.

eg. 12" Diamond Audio M6 needing only 0.8 cu.ft while capable of handling up to 500w RMS easily

Default agreed....also since you have more control over the driver in a sealed enclosure, it usually can

handle more power vs. in a ported box.

Default This isn't true, a properly made ported box wont be boomy, and will give more output

You just can't buy a cookie cutter box for your sub and expect it to sound good. If you design the box per the speaker's specs, sealed or ported will both sound good.

Default then why choose one over the other? The Elemental Designs website has blueprints for

building each, specific to each of their subs. So if both boxes are built to exact specs, which one will give tighter more accurate bass?

Default i never use pre-fab boxes, i always go with custom built enclosures

and yes, design is everything. an average sub with a properly built box will sound better than a high end sub in a cheap enclosure.
