Default What now?

I posted a while ago because my bose gamma radio wasn't working right (the tape deck would light up but the display wouldn't work). I realized that my radio is just busted and I need to get something new. I went to best buy and circuit city and they told me that I would have to have the whole car rewired because a non-bose stereo would not work with a bose system. I went to an audio place and I have an appointment to get a new stereo installed (a JVC), but they said I will have to get a pre-amp ($100) so that it will work with the current bose system. I have a couple of questions about this, namely, is the pre-amp necessary? Can I just buy a stereo an install it myself with the existing bose system? Will I need a wiring harness (where do I find it?)? This has sort of become an expensive nightmare, so any help is appreciated.

Default You just need the Bose RCA adapter and the antenna amp

Default I don't recomend JVC....

Very unreliable, junk IMO. You can hard wire it to work w/o any type of pre-amp device. I've done it in a few different audi's. I recomend using an interface/pre-amp/ adaptor harness/ or whatever. You could damage your amps, or more likely your new head unit. Anyway if you get all the parts installing it is pretty easy. So what the pre-amp cost you can save on install.

Default I don't think you need a preamp

I have done the reverse -- I connected a Bose Gamma CC (in a 94 S4) to aftermarket amplifiers. No adapter was required. The audio signals emitted by the Gamma CC are standard line level.
