What's the basic design of the A6 Bose Subwoofer?

What's the basic design of the A6 Bose Subwoofer?
My wife's A6 with Bose has the little sub in the trunk near the right wheel hub and it sounds great to me (not as high fidelity as some of you guys top of the line things but still good) and I want to get something like that going with my A4 non-Bose Concert System.
How's that A6 sub designed? It looks small and ported. How's the sound getting into the cabin so well? What's a good way to imitate that setup with my A4 Concert?
