Default When building a custom box...

should I take into account the amount of air space that the back of the sub is going to take up when calculating the amount of total air space in the box, or should I calculate it without taking the sub into account?

Default Take into account everything you can.

interior dimensions of enclosure not exterior, driver displacement, and braces you intend on stiffening the box with. You will only get a more accurate measurement.

Default Depends on how the sub manufacturer lists the box size.

Infinity for example lists the require volume that already takes the driver displacement into account. Some manufacturers just give a recommended box size. Since the driver is usually less than 0.05 cu ft of displacement it does not matter all that much.

Default I am getting Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1's, and they recommend .6 cubic ft.

Your saying that the .6 cubic ft. already takes the driver displacement into account.

Default Yes, it is. But I had mine in a 0.66 box it was just fine.

I actually still have it for sale. It's a 10.1d (dual voice coil) in a subzone box that is 0.66 cu ft.

I doubt you could hear the difference between 0.66 and 0.6, this is why I said it's a moot point to worry about it.
