Which will be louder? Two 8W3s or One 12W3? TIA!

It's not really that simple but...
2 8's have a total cone area of about 100 sq inches
1 12 has a total cone area of about 113 sq inches
Output is a product of how much air the cone moves so the 12 will move more air than the pair of 8's assuming they have the same excursion which they probably don't...I'd guess the 12 has a longer throw which will put it even more ahead of the 8's. This is a vary basic way to look at it and also assumes equal power is used.
Why not a pair of 10's?
