Default Anyone know the origins of the crumpled newspaper window cleaning technique?

I have no idea how much money I have spent through time on almost every window cleaning product known to man trying to clean interior windows in cars, but none of them come even vaguely close to a simple wet rag and a crumpled piece of newspaper. This also cleans CRT screens better than anything else I have ever tried.

Who in the world thought to try this in the first place? It almost seems illogical - you end up needing to wash your hands when done because the ink blackens your hands, but leaves the glass crystal clear.

I am amazed.

Your Granny used newspaper? Sounds like there is some serious history to this.

Default I have never tried this because I believe in a warm washcloth with water and a diaper . . .

all other things like Windex and Glass Plus are designed to make your windows hazy on a regular basis.

All of those substances successfully left a haze. No diapers around, but newspapers abound.

I've found just a plain microfiber cloth works fine. Takes a tiny bit of elbow grease, but works ok

My local auto supply shop actually sells diapers among other detailing cloths.
