Default Best product for getting scratches out of black paint? More

Hi again, folks. I bought a 98 and am still trying to repair damage from the neglect of the former owner to the paint. I have three or four 2+ inch long scratches. These scratches are not all the way through the paint, and actually look more like someting rubbed against the paint and left a permanent mark. They are whitish against the black paint. I tried Meguiars ScratchX which, honestly, did little or nothing to my paint, good or bad, whatsoever. Would a little elbow grease combined with IHG get the job done?

Default Re:

If they are just surface scratches, a polish should work. Glaze would be to light in my opinion.

If they either touched the primer, or went through the primer you will only fix them through touch-up paint.

Default IHG isn't going to work. It may hide it for a short while, but you'll see that scratch again.

You'll probably need to have it buffed out. Take it to a good detailer, and they can go over the entire car with a buffer. Keep in mind, they will probably use abrasive materials to remove all the swirls and scratches. This basically equates to stripping off a thin layer of the clearcoat. With an abused finish, sometimes this is the best way to go. Make sure you go to a GOOD detailer. A bad one armed with a buffer will just make your finish worse!

They don't appear to have touched the primer, will try a polish. Thanks.

Before you grind on it any more see if a solvent takes it off or reduces it . . .
