Default bird guano etching update: menzerna rocks ...

hit the etched spot this morning with powergloss -> ip -> 106ff -> 85rd and it's gone. according to my paint depth gauge, i had to remove .60-.75 mils of clearcoat to get it out. thankfully, the clear is pretty thick because the car's been repainted.

hard to believe something sat on the surface of your car long enough to etch ;-)

What's the paint depth on the area that was painted at the factory?

Default not sure i understand the question but ...

typically, a factory paintjob has 2-3 mils of color coat and 2-3 mils of clearcoat. most aftermarket paint shops are higher -- e.g., my roof is around 4 mils of color and 4 mils of clear.

Default i think mine was around $6500, but the tt's a small car and ...

i didn't change the color much, so the engine compartment and other hidden bits of trim didn't have to be repainted. but it's still not an easy job -- the windows all had to come out, as did the bumpers, sidesills, trim pieces, mirrors, door handles, ...
