Default Cleaning chrome

Was watching Graveyard Cars where Mark Worman mentioned that Muriatic acid can be used to clean chrome. Anybody ever used this?

Had bad is your chrome? I'm no chemist, but I think that acid is pretty strong.

Vinegar is just acidic acid, might be gentler to use.

I'd just finished cleaning my exhaust tips with simple green and a scrubbing pad then came across the article.
