Default Clear Mask Problems on S4

My question, in short: I have a clear mask that's in bad shape and needs replaced; have you had to replace yours and did it damage the paint?

I have a 2000 S4 with a third-party clear mask "bra" that was installed by the dealer (McDonald Audi in Littleton, CO) when I bought the car. Two years later, it has deteriorated severely. The dealer says the installer, IDS, has changed hands and isn't honoring the warranty. The dealer will [have aother company] remove and replace the mask -- for $75 -- but wants me to sign a release from liability and warranty claims. "We can't guarantee the condition of the underlying paint (appropraite disclaimer must be signed)."

Considering what you pay for an S4, I'd have liked to have seen my dealer step up and fix the problem instead of solely blaming IDS and backing away. I can't make an insurance claim without knowing if there's damage, I won't know that until I remove the mask, and the dealer wants a release to remove it.

If you've already been through this, do you have any advice for me? TIA.

Default I thought all the clear bras ..................

Where from the same basic 3M stuff.
I would simply check out the major sites and follow the directions on how to remove.
I would also watch or help if needed when the work is done.
www.stongard
www.expel
I would want to find out why it failed so soon, and if the new bra is made by the same comp.Depending on what you find out, you may have other choices.
Good Luck

I agree, call www.stoneguard.com (correct URL) and ask for help.

Default Not all of them are...

www.clearbra.net doesnt' use the 3M stuff. They re-did my hood after it was on for about 8 months, and my paint was fine.

I've heard some horror stories about others who've used other products though...

Argh, I hate websites that make it hard to get out using the back button.

Default I got stuck behind some repaving truck or something, and my hood was pretty splotchy with etches

My actual hood and paint were perfectly fine. Just the bra material was etched up (from hot gravel?) I highly recommend them. If you do a search in the S4 forum, there's a bunch of us who've used them. It's a little pricey, but IMO the best stuff out there and well worth it. I can dig up some pics/posts if you want.

Default It seems like a good product.............

From the web site though its hard to tell just what they sell.
They don`t seem to have stock paterns in stock , is it just sold in bulk ?
Is it harder to put on because it is thicker ?

I have the X-pel mask on my Vette, that is a hard car to do with all the compound curves on the front. This seems like a nice upgrade if I ever need it.
Thanks.

Default They're not pre-cut kits. They're custom installed, so no seams. Lemme dig up a url...
