Default Convertible / ragtop cleaning and conditioning.

I just cleaned and conditioned the top of the wife's Boxster, and figured I'd document what I did, as it seems to have worked well. I'm really liking the look and the way it's beading water.

Best to do this in a garage, if you can.

Cleaning:
Start with a clean car (freshly washed).
Use Zep commercial "Upholstery Cleaner" from Home Depot. Mist on. Take a thick microfiber towel and a gallon of water, wet a quarter of the towel and wring out. Scrub/blot/clean the top with the damp towel, pausing to rinse the towel periodically. Dry with a clean microfiber. Let completely air dry for a couple of hours.

Conditioning:
303 High Tech Fabric Guard. Made by the same folks as 303 Aerospace Protectant, with which most of you are probably familiar. Mist onto the roof, wetting the entire surface. I used pretty much an entire 16 oz spray bottle. Let dry 24 hours.

The top was nice and black before, but it's a deeper black now, and *really* sheds water.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard

Default You don't wipe it down after spraying on the 303?

Mist onto the roof, wetting the entire surface. I used pretty much an entire 16 oz spray bottle. Let dry 24 hours.

I have this image of little droplets of 303 fabric guard all over the roof, running down the sides.....begging to be spread around and/or worked into the surface with a soft cloth or closed cell foam pad. No?

I don't even own a convertible.

The Boxster has a fabric top? You sure it's not vinyl?

No, it just gets absorbed by the fabric.

Default You're kidding, right?

Now until this last makeover, the rear window was vinyl. But not the top.

From the Porsche web site:

"The top itself is made from a durable fabric that is specially protected against ultraviolet radiation."
