Default Engine detailing

I was watching the Adam's polish instructional videos. He used Simple Green and used a hose to spray the engine bay.

My engine bay needs some cleaning. Can I spray the engine with a hose?
What do I need to cover up:Alternator, Coilpacks?

Can I use Simple Green to clean wheels?

Default Yes you can do it that way just becareful and wary of what you are doing

It should be fairly quick..use a leaf blower to dry it.

Forget the leaf blower, it will force water where you don't want it to go

Default I hate that kind of "detailing"....

because it's so freaking dangerous and messy. Water is not a good thing to be hosing around your engine bay and electronics. Plus it does just a so-so job. You still have to get it there and REALLY detail it to get it looking nice. To me it's like washing the outside of my car at a Spray-N-Wash with the soapy broom! Oh well.

Anyway, having said that, TIN FOIL is a great tool to use to seal off many of the electronics and oddly shaped areas you want to stay dry. It shapes/conforms easily and is water tight. Better than bags and ties. Heat resistant as well.

As far as Simple Green on wheels, please don't. I ruined a set of Audi Coupe GT Speedline wheels over the course of a year (a slow etching) with SG. It was developed as a tractor engine cleaner. Strong stuff.

Use a ph balanced cleaner or use a stronger acid based cleaner if your wheels are bad PER INSTRUCTIONS.

Default Yes thank you!

It's not like we're still driving MGs and Fiats that weep oil and coolant from every pore. It's just dust people!
