Default What about scratched up wheels?

Any effect on exposed metal? Planning on using it on my winter wheels when I get a chance, but they do have a fair amount of curbage.

Default You can't see the scratches in the pic, but the face of the wheel has been scratched badly...

I'm not sure why you can't see it in the pic, but it just shows how harmless KABOOM is to paint & clearcoat. I edited out the severe curbing to this wheel in the pic also...there's a gouge on the outer lip (right side of picture next to the valve stem) about 5 inches across where the metal & paint is bent and is flaking from the curbing. The Kaboom just cleaned out any road grime from where it is flaking. I could not see any deterioration of the bare damaged metal, nor was the paint lifting away more than it already was before.

If you look closely, you can also see some minor curb rash at the bottom right of the pic. KABOOM had no effect on the exposed metal primer.

It is interesting to note KABOOM had no effect on grease, even after 8 applications, I was finding spots of grease that were still glued to the wheel.

Default

Thanks for the info. I'll be trying it on my winter wheels soon.

Default Did you say take the wheels off the car to safely apply?

First question would be, what is the worst thing that could happen if you don't take your wheels off first? Second would be is it worth taking that risk? I have a guaranteed safe way to clean your wheels on the car and wax them in one step. Just do what Troy does, use WheelWax to get the wheels clean and protected. Even if Kaboom does clean the wheels, taking them off, kabooming them, then waxing them, then putting them back on seems like a lot more work than the few bucks that you might save is worth.

Default I think people are starting to misunderstand the Kaboom method of cleaning...

...This is intended for when taking winter wheels off the car to store them away for the summer months, it is not intended for dusty summer wheels or wheels used in southern most states where road salting/sanding is not used 6 months out of the year.

Cleaning the wheel properly should be first priority when storing them for the summer. If you are from northern most state in NA, then you know about the level of filth on the wheels that I'm talking about. No other wheel cleaning products to date have worked for me with the yellowing/staining I'm talking about.

Kaboom reacts with some metals, and is safe on others. I have no idea what it would do to brakes/suspension parts that are bare metal, which is why I stated to take them off when using Kaboom. Not to take them off, then put them back on -PITA, IMHO.

So yes, your method of cleaning is what should be done when the wheels are on the car still. If you look through my posts on this I explained that I would still be using my P21S wheel cleaner & wheel wax on the summer tires.

Hope that clears things up for you...

Cheers

Default Same here...any wheel that gets this treatment will get it once a year, tops.

This cleaner is not a substitute for a daily cleaner. I generally wash my wheels with car wash soap, and that's it!. Once every 3 months, they get pulled from the car for a full front to back cleaning (P21S Wheel Cleaner or similar) + wax.

Once a year, I might use Kaboom on my factory wheels to remove everything that the P21S left behind. My aftermarket wheels will likely NEVER see Kaboom!

Default In this post...

In the P21S pic, the silver box on the left is their regular strength wheel cleaner, and the gold/green box on the right is their "extra strength" gel wheel cleaner. I would recommend the latter, since both are gentle on the paint (the second is obviously a little stronger).

https://forums.audiworld.com/detail/msgs/16427.phtml</a
