OK, some of your true "axis of detailers" folks will cringe when I tell you exactly what I did, but at least my car is detailed.
It was still too cold for a full wash job outside, so I went through the touchless place and got the cheapo wash without any wax. Then I rushed home and dried the car off in the garage and gave it a full clay bar treatment.
I went over the whole car with both Menzerna IP and FP using my newly acquired PC 7336 (had a lot of water spots, I didn't get them all, but hey it's my first try).
Finally I topped it off with BFII. That was amazingly easy to buff out. Wow! I always remember "wax off" really sucking big time!
And let's just say I'll be a son of a bitch if I ever do this kind of thing without a PC7336! <Insert a raving Howard Dean yell here> Yyyyyeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

I got one at Lowe's with the 10% movers discount for under $100.
I think I used too much product most of the time (especially with the BFII) and I know I need to wash the car better, but hey ... it looks pretty good anyway.
I'm a sucker for stupid advertising claims so I bought the orange/green pad combo from CMA and also the Surbuf pads. I think they worked fine, but I'll probably get a yellow and white pad just for fun.

My orange pad (the one I used IP with) came out very silver. Is that from oxidation or possibly the heavily clouded chrome trim? I'm having some trouble cleaning this pad now.
I ran it through the washing machine and worked on it by hand with some handwash soap.
Any ideas?

I try to do is get a pad and only use it with one product. I use a permanent ink marker to write down the product name on the back of the pad (Menzerna FP, 3M SMR, etc., etc). Then I just rinse in a warm bucket of water to get the grunge off of them as needed. I rarely rinse my wax pad, just beat it once in awhile. A wax pad lasts about 1-2 years for me. I have a five gallon bucket full of pads right now. As they get "bad" I demote them to the truck, parents and friends cars, etc.
Whe I first started using the PC I did try to get a pad or two beck to "brand new" condition after use. Never made it, there was always a "stain" from the product I used.
I think the main thing is to get the car clean before you use the pads. Sounds like you did that.
I have washed pads in the washer once on a "double rinse cycle". They didn't come out perfect. I probably cross contaminated the pads with what was on them when they went in the washer too. They came out plenty good for the pickup truck. ;-)
I've never used the orange or green pads so who knows?
