Default HELP!!!!!! I rubbed the clear coat off my car I think!!!

Sap got on my car and I scrubbed it with some goo gone and now it looks fadded in that spot.

is there any products that can fix it?
or am I screwed?

its a spot in the back
I have waxed it and it sort of goes away
but not all is there a better wax or product to use.

thanks

Default well..

I think it would take alot of goo gone and rubbing to get all the clearcoat off. I don't think goo gone is all that abrasive.

For future reference, I would use tar & sap remover instead of goo gone, which is designed for glue residue.

Wax is not going to fix it, as its just something that sits on the paint.

first make sure that the goo gone didn't remove the natural oils from the paint, and use a good polish on the area. Try Meguirs, Mothers, 3M.. all make good polishes. If that doesn't work

I would work my way up wish glazes..
start with something mild like 3M Imperial Hand glaze.

If that doesn't restore it, go to 3M Perfect it Glaze (for dark colored cars)

Finally 3M Perfect it II (be careful when using this, its pretty abrasive).

Should put the shine back in the car.

Default I recently used a different product to remove sap on a non TT, and had a similar problem. It seems

trace amounts of sap remained on the finish and had the dulling effect you mention. Use a product specifically for sap removal & then survey the results. Follow with a glaze or polish, then wax.
