Default how long does a clay bar last?

i've had a claybar for about a year. i've never used it on an entire car before, usually just on little small scuffs and stuff like that. i was going to use it this weekend on my car before i polish/wax it, and just wanted to make sure it was 'okay' to use it. are there telltale signs that the bar is no longer good?

Default When you can't find a clean surface when you stretch/fold it.

No set time limit on it, since it depends not only how much you use it and how thorough you are but also what the condition of the cars are that you're using it on. I tend to err on the side of not overusing mine, but a 100 gram bar should be good for 3-4 or more whole-car uses, assuming the paint is already in good condition when you start. If you've never used a clay bar, the first use always yields the most dirt. Some people will use a bar once and toss it "just to be safe", but that's really a waste IMO.

Default Until you drop it on the floor

this gets expensive so I will shave off the outside surface with a Microplane.
I'm pretty clumsy so I have a few, one for lowers, one for windows and one fresh one for paint.

Default Is there any downside to using a clay bar on your car. Will it take off the clear coat, or ruin

the paint after a while?

Default

Most claybars today are nonabrasive, so the answer is no.
