Default How to remove old wax before applying new wax?
Will strong dish washing liquid do the trick or clay is a must?

I would use a dish washing soap. (Dawn or something)

Default The original blue colored Dawn in moderate ratio should do a pretty good job.
First polishing would do the trick as well.

Clay will remove everything...dish soap, not so much

My 2 cents... only use Clay if your going to polish afterwards. Clay does cause slight scratches.
