Just pick up some instant detailer (mothers, meguiers...). After you finish washing and drying, spray one panel at a time, and wipe it down with a terry cloth towel. The instant detailer will add some gloss and shine, and it will also give you that "waxxy" feeling again.

hosed down my car with water then dried it. Will my coat of wax from a week ago disappear?
(No soap)

Car wash soap will not strip the wax significantly. Most car wash soaps are designed to be gentle on the wax, but your paint will have a tacky feel when you're done washing. I presume you want that smooth slick "just waxed" feel, so use the detailer for that.
Running water over a dirty car, and drying it will just result in swirls in the paint. Clean the paint first via a good old fashioned car wash, then use the instant detailer.
