Default Lacquer thinner???????

so i'm with my friend at a local carwash where she takes her car. and as we're waiting for her car to go through the wash i walk over to the detailing area to see what the "pros" are using. i watch a guy take bugs and tar off of a lexus bumper with a heavy dose of lacquer thinner. is this a good idea??? doesn't sit right with me.

Default I haven't had time to check this forum in a while. I thought for a second you were serious. ;-) BTW,

we still planning on meeting up half way for Mid-Ohio? I've been talking to friends who drive out that way and they say the PA turnpike sucks (construction, traffic, etc...) and that route 68 is the way to go. What are your thoughts? I've never really driven the PA Tpke, so I have no clue.

Default What would you prefer them to use? Solvents are good because you spend less time

actually physically rubbing the paint, the solvent does the work. While laquer thinner is probably the cheaper harsher alternative I would say it's fine. For my heavy duty tar removal need I use toluene. For light cleaning of paint and rubber trim I use my much pictured GROW 1705 Super Kleen (Pre Kleano) paint prep solvent.

I wish we could get the stats for how many times that pic has been posted. ;-)

Default Well...last week a few of us were trading posts about using Kaboom on the paint...

but we were talking about using it on our old oxidized beaters that never ever get washed! :-)

I've heard the same about the PA Turnpike, however, I have NO idea where 68 is! I'll check my road atlas tonight for alternates. If you want to go a different route, that's fine by me...we can just meet at the hotel. You have the hotel info I sent you? (a long time ago)

Default Yep, still have the info...68 runs along the MD-PA border to Morgantown WV, from there we could head

North. It was just a suggestion. Frankly I'd rather caravan than drive for 6 hours by myself, so which ever way you want to go is fine with me.

Default Just looked at a map...

Rt 68 would take me about 1 hour and fifteen minutes out of my way to avoid a 2.5 hour stint on the PA Turnpike. Not sure it's worth the detour.
