Default mothers clay bar...what to use as lube??

ran out of the instant detailing stuff...but I wasnt a fan of it. It would leave a oily residue behind that was impossible to get off. Ive heard of people using car soap as a lube...is that ok??

Default Yeah, diluted liquid car wash soap works fine.

Use 2 or 3 times as much as you would to wash your car, in 1/3 to 1/2 of the water. Slather it on with a clean sponge or mitt. I hold the sponge in one hand, the claybar in the other, and just keep wiping across the surface with both. This actually works much better than detailing spray, and has the advantage of being easily rinsed off.

use mother show room shine spray on wax. Works good. Soap is too slippery unless it is very diluted.

Default just water works fine.....

i often use the hose running at a trickle. works fine with the softer clays like mothers. really cold water is a problem because the clay stiffens, but in the summer that's not an issue.

spray bottle with car wash/water at a 1/50 ratio also works....it takes very little wash as the useful part is the surfactant.

can also use liquid water softeners like calgon mixed at the same 1/50 ratio....this is a pure surfactant so water rinses easier after claying...a bonus.

any detailing spray will also work, i buy the "megs" because i like the scent and it comes in gallon size. again detail spray can be extended by mixing 1/3 or 1/4 with water.

and for anyone who really thinks clay strips or removes all wax....
try 3m wax stripper after a clay treatment and look what residue is on the cloth.
also
water still beads after clay==wax still present.
water sheets after wax stripper==wax free.

cheers

Default Personally Meguirer's Quick Detailing spray is cheap enough and works for me.

Whenever I clay I usually polish or glaze or use P21S GEPC and those all clean up the quick detailer mess.
