Default Pads for PC7424.

I need to purchase pads for my new PC 7424 RO polisher. I'm looking at properautocare.com now and they have three pads, gray, white and yellow. I know that the yellow is too aggressive for my needs (6 month old Brilliant Black S4) but I'm debating between the white or gray pads to apply 3M Imperial Machine Glaze and P21S GEPC. I also use P21S was, but I'll continue to apply that by hand. My finish is pretty good, save for some dealer installed swirl marks. Can I get by with the less aggressive gray pad for both the 3M IMG and P21S GEPC or should I use the white pads for one or both? Thanks.

Default I typically use the least aggressive pad I can find.

If your paint is in good shape, and you're not looking to cut down the surface, use the mildest pad.

If you're not happy with the results when you're done, revisit your application process for the products you're using. If you really think you need to be more aggressive on the paint, try the middle pad on one panel and examine the results. Foam pads are pretty gentle on the paint anyway, but I don't see any point in using something aggressive if you don't need to.

BTW, be prepared for one helluva shine when you're done! It's going to look better than the day you picked it up from the dealer!!!

Default BTW, thank you for organizing the tanoga shifter group buy.

I'm in the process of buying a 2001 S4 Santorin/Silver Alcantara. I should have it by the end of next week. I went online to AWE last night and ordered the tanoga. I tried Andy Hedin's last year, and thought it was terrific. I have a UUC in my A4, but the tanoga felt SO much better! Are they adjustable from 30-40-50% or is it fixed at 50%?

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll try the gray pads.

Default You're welcome. Congrats on the S4 and welcome to the family :) glad you got in on the SS deal.

The Tanoga is fixed at 50% but from what people have said, it isn't really 50%. Honestly, I've never driven a car with a Tanoga, I've only felt the UUC in the S4 and I decided on the Tanoga based on the recommendations of people on AW. The UUC felt pretty good so I'm psyched for the Tanoga. I'm going to install it next weekend at the Rockville Audi tech session. Enjoy your new car! You're going to love the S4. My dad has a 2001 A4 1.8TQMS (an awesome car in it's own right) and driving his car vs. my car, I know you're going to love it!

Default I bought 2 white pads for use with 3M Foam-Pad polishing glaze and 3M IHG, and

2 gray pads for P21S GEPC and wax. I agree that yellow just didn't seem justified, and perhaps I'll learn that white wasn't either. I'll let the forum know my full report when everything gets here.

Default Do me a favor and take note of any special install tips.

I've done several installs of the UUC's in the A4, however the *one* attempt at a UUC install in a 2000 S4 ended abruptly, when we couldn't figure out how to loosen the nut/bolt holding the shifter together. We stopped, and put everything back together. It seemed like the A4 had an extra 1/8" of room to work with...which was desparately needed to do the job. I haven't seen the 2001.5 S4's, so I don't know how that would compare to the 2000 S4...but as it stands, I'm a little leery about opening her up as soon as I get her.

Default I just did 3M IHG with a gray pad and all was good. I also bought some extra "cheap" foam/backing

plate like your Porter Cable came with. Used one for Glass Polish so far. I probably overdid it :

2 gray
2 white
1 yellow
4 white foam with backing pad

I should be set for a really long time. I can do things to my boats and pickup with a cheap pad and toss if its really weird stuff.

Default We carry an excellent pad...

Our pads are made by Surbuf. They are excellent - never too aggressive and never not enough. Withstands many washings.

Here's a link to the pads:
