Default Pitted Windshield and Insurance Question...........

I have full glass coverage through GEICO.

My windshield is so pitted that I can't see hardly anything when driving into low angle sun in the morning or afternoon.

Does anyone know or have experience with insurance companies covering replacement for a pitted windshield as opposed to an obviously cracked windshield?

or do I have to do the "oooops...I was changing my wiper blades and the wiper arm snapped down and cracked my windshield!" bit.

Thanks.

Default My insurance company had no problem

Insured through Amica, had the same exact problem. They replaced it no questions asked , let me chose the shop/glass I wanted and no deductible to top it off!

Default Unbelievable!

This is a problem with an aging car...a result of using the car is the windshield will get pitted over time. I can't believe an insurance company would be willing to folk out for something like that.

Agree. Allstate would never replace glass for pitting.

Default I'm not debating why it's undesirable...

just saying this isn't covered by auto insurance. Someone at your insurance company let this slide without questioning the matter.

Default Dunno

I took my car to a local glass place to get a chip looked at. They noticed that my windshield was very pitted and suggested I contact my insurance company and do a claim, he said it is very common. Maybe something with NY law?

Default *Shrug*

I guess he has nothing to lose. You contact insurance, they say "replace it on us", he makes a sale? They said no, perhaps the customer comes back and says "I'll pay for a new windshield anyway"? I really don't know what the story there is.
