Default Preserving All Weather Floor Mats

Anybody have any suggestions on whether or how to preserve the rubber all-weather floor mats? I was thinking cleaning them with the car, and then hitting them with a one-step cleaner/protectant foam or spray when I pull them out in the spring to put the carpeted mats back in. Is this overkill or a bad idea? (I don't use the spray or foam on my tires--I use Griot's or One Grand, whichever I happen to have)

Default Soap, water and a scrub brush as needed. If you spray anything on them, they will become

dangerously slick. They never see the sun, so they'll probably outlive your car.

Default It's a good idea to use protectant on them...

They are subjected to a lot of abuse and contaminents which makes them dirty and ugly especially where your feet grind. I clean mine several times throughout the winter as well and spray with a water based protectant (less likely to be shiny, silicone laden and slippery). They always look perfect.

Default Ah......Yep it's not about durability...

For me it's about looks. I have done this for years. And if you use the proper protectant you won't make it slick, which, I agree, you don't want!

Reminds me of the day my friend ArmourAll'd his Kawasaki seat!

Default Agreed...

I clean mine with hot soapy water then use a protectant on them to restore the surface condition.

Esp. the one on the drivers floor, which gets real messed up because of my work boots.

Even after washing it still looked scuffed. Meg's vinyl/rubber made them sippery, then I tried a similar product by STP I had laying around and it didn't.

Default rubbers are meant to.......

do a job and then be discarded.

they offer protection so that little audi drivers don't come along until you can afford a wagon....

cheers
