After I wash the car with soap, when I wipe the paint using a cloth with polish, wax, or quick detailer, I still pick up dirt off the paint. The only way I can clean the car so this doesn't happen is by using a clay bar between washing and polishing. But that is a major pain in the ***. Is there a quicker/easier way to effectively clean before polishing... without using a claybar?

How frequently do you wash the car? What kind of dirt is it? It sounds like your not using a good car wash soap, or not enough of it. I've had this problem once or twice and it came down to me not using enough soap. I usually go over the areas like lower door panels and bumpers twice and that takes care of it. I use Meguiars Gold Glass and generally add to my bucket as I wash the car to keep in nice and foamy. Never had a problem with picking up dirt with my towel/absorber.
