Default Rain-X after Diamondite....yes....

After querying this board about how to treat a "sand-blasted" appearing windshield, I used the Diamondite 3-step process this weekend.

The first two steps worked well. The window cleaner and the Spray Clay (using the scouring pad) removed the deeply etched watermarks and the weird shadows that nothing else (not even real clay) could remove.

The 3rd step, called the "Shield", delivered O.K. results. Diamondite claims it is a windshield protectant and a beading agent. I'll wait to see whether it's a protectant, but the water-shedding action leaves something to be desired. It's nothing spectacular. It is definitely better than an untreated windshield, in that water beads up nicely. But, the water doesn't run screaming off the windshield like it used to with Rain-X.

Overall: On the upside, the windshield is smooth, much clearer and reflects nice "sharp" images. You can tell the windshield is cleaner. On the downside, it still has that sandblasted appearance when driving into the sun.
Driving in steady rain this a.m., the water beaded nicely on the windshield, but didn't come close to the same effect you get with a recent coat of Rain-X.

Verdict: If your windshield has severe watermarks or has been severely neglected, the 3-step process will help improve the worst of those symptoms. It will not, however, remove or eliminate the sandblasted appearance and it doesn't come even remotely close to the water-sheeting action of Rain-X.
