Hey guys, I've got a 2000 S4 which had it's minor dings here and there. Well, she's got a big nice chip on the hood fromdoing bone head things while working on the car (long story dont ask).
In any case I have a chip about 50% the size of a dime throught the clearcoat. The paint below looks salvagable (not through to primer or metal). I've been looking at using Langka but everything I've read says that the touch up paint wont match well due to the metallic flakes. Do I even need to add more paint if the chip is not through the paint? Or can I get away with just adding some clearcoat and using langka to smooth it out?
Thanks
Rob
Do I have any ohter options or is this a body shop issue?

<center><img src="http://www.fototime.com/A82A12AE1623019/standard.jpg"></center><p>Check out what I did on my metallic silver-blue Carrera. I was horrified with an AWFUL chip but saved it with an airbrush repair. The results are great...luckily. It was my first use of an airbrush.
There was a chip the size of a quarter right in the middle of the lip in the center of this photo.
Check the link for more details on how I did it and what tools are needed. It might work for you.<ul><li><a href="http://autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=c71bd7dbfb75db45f96984e637a96904& amp;threadid=43937&highlight=airbrush">Link to Autopia thread on Airbrush</a></li></ul>

Ask at your dealership about the guy in the white van that comes to visit every so often. He's got little cans of every color of automotive paint and an airbrush/compressor setup. His job is to work on used cars that just have some scratches, chips or dings to make them look like new.
In fact, the guy who does detailing in my building's basement has such a guy who comes to do work on order. When it's time to return my lease, I'll be giving this guy a call to deal with a chip on my front bumper. No body shop for me, they only deal with massive stuff!

I got the H-Set Single Action. You can buy it in a variety of kit sizes with different accessories. I got the most basic set locally at a hobby shop for about $50.<ul><li><a href="http://www.paascheairbrush.com/cgi-bin/store/search.cgi?category=Single+Action+Airbrushes">Paas che Airbrush</a></li></ul>

Go to the dealership and get there's. It matched "well" for my metallic mellange. I had one about the same size. clean the area with alcohol and wipe off dry. dab some paint in there, but don't do to much because it will coat better in layers. Let dry for an hour and do another coat or repeat until you reach above paint level. then use some clear coat laquer. get some auto sand paper and block. I can't think what grade (maybe 1500) ask some body knowledgable at autozone or another paint shop. Sand down. Of course your going to get some scratches on the "good" paint but they will buff out with polish (Sonus SFX-1to3)or . You have to use a PC with a cutting pad.
Follow autopia's "how to-s" on polishing to get them out.
You can't even notice mine now and the couple of scrapes on my front bumper. My girls VW Jetta got hit in the back and scraped the top of the bumpers paint all the way off to the bumper and I got it looking nice.
GOOD LUCK!
