Default SO I went to do some touch up on my black A4....

I did a pretty good job but some of the touch up paint globbed up aroud the scratch. DO you think I can wet sand the excess paint away with 5,000 grit sand paper? Thanks Adam

Default 5000 grit??? I thought 2000 was the finest you could get?

Generally, you wet sand with 2000, follow with a fine rubbing compound, then with a fine polishing compound, and finally wax.

Mask off the area around the "lump", and attach the sandpaper to a plastic block (anything to help you level the raised part of the clearcoat).

Default This what you want?

I think things turn into a polish around 2000. You are getting into the 10s or less of microns, less than a hair. How could you sand and clear the "sanded off stuff" out of the way without a polish?

3M Auto

Default OK, dum old me, here are some lapidary disks...8000 grit ?

This is glass maker, lense maker, etc., stuff.

Diamond Sanding/Polishing Discs

Hi-Tech Diamond Smoothing Discs
The most effective way to remove grinding marks and pre-polish material. Hi-Tech diamond smoothing discs ensure rapid removal of scratches and high spots on cabochons, yet can also smooth large, flat areas in channel inlay work. A high concentration of diamond is loaded into the disc to provide an extremely aggressive grinding rate, yet leaves an exceptionally smooth surface finish. Will not crack or peel. All discs come with pressure sensitive

Lapidary Supplies

Default Wow...never occured to me!

Any idea what the difference is between grit and mesh? I found 1 8000 grit, the rest of the stuff is "mesh" whatever that is.

Really? I've never used it, but others have reported pretty good results.
