Default When detailing I use my Saeco Steam sprayer

This in turn will loosen the dirt trapped on the engine. I try not to use water unless the engine is in really bad shape. After the dirt is loosened use a some towels/old microfibers that you intend to throw away and wipe it clean. If desired dress all all your hoses and engine cover. Whatever you do avoid harsh cleaner because this will kill the life of belts and hoses, and as I mentioned use the least amount of water possible.

(I answered this post even though you hate my sirius install)

Two schools of thought....

I keep the engine bay clean by wiping it down each time I wash the car using old wet towels. If you do this on a regular basis, you don't need to do anything else.

I recommend avoiding spraying any steam or water in there. A potential scenario for disaster if things get too wet.

Default by steam I meant less than 50psi from a very small machine.

You can never be too cautious in the engine bay

Default In that case

I might try Simple Green or one of the similar citrus-based cleaners. If the coolant was going to do any damage to paint, plastic, wiring, etc. it's already happened, you just want to get things back to a neutral condition.

Don't use much volume or pressure of water on non-metal surfaces, IMHO.
