I am looking to upgrade the brakes of my A4 for street and occational track day use. I did some searching; if there is a good thread on this already I'd appreciate a link.
I feel there is a massive choise out there, but hard to find actual experience with the varius options. Can we try to collect some knowledge on improving the braking capabilities of my A4?
Which, in your opinion, are viable and reasonably cost effective ways to improve braking capability?
- High performance pads (I consider fresh hoses and fluid flush mandatory)
- ECS OEM 345mm rotors and caliper carriers. Does anyone know if these carriers are an ECS part or oem? And do these brakes actually improve capacity, or is the caliper the limiting factor?
- Higher quality caliper with adapter. Are there carriers for Porsche calipers available somewhere?
- RS4 front brakes
- 3rd party BBK

For occasional track day use, IMO, your priorities should be:
1. higher temp fluid, fresh (ate super2000/blue or similar)
2. higher temp pad. Many choices - stoptech 309, Hawk HP+ (not HPS) and then they get abrasive
3. Bigger rotor. I cant speak for the ecs kit, but after pads, the next heat issue would be rotors
finally, calipers. Find out what's o the S4 and try that. bear in mind your wheel may no longer clear new calipers.
Also remember slotted and drilled rotors are basically bling. Yes, drilled is slightly lighter. But its also much weaker.
