B6 A4 1.8T Q Brake upgrade question. Your input is appreciated.
Basic info:
04 A4 1.8T quattro with the stock 288mm front brakes, stock pads, and stock rear brake setup.
I am looking for a semi-affordable way to get better braking so i can do a couple track events (open track days), a drivers school or two so i can learn more and a few auto-x's a year. I don't need 'bling' brakes, i just want to be safe, have fun and have predictable braking.
Also the setup needs to clear my stock 17" sport wheels and my summer 17" OZ super leg's.
I am looking at these options:
Economy idea-
front:
ECS 312mm Slotted floating rotor for the front w/ stainless lines and Hawk ceramic pads.
rear:
ECS slotted stock size rotor with stainless lines and Hawk ceramic pads.
Total = $1100
Expensive level-
Stoptech 328mm kit w/ additional stainless lines for rear and stoptech pads for rear..
Total = $2300
I guess i am trying to decide what to do. Is it worth it for me to break down and buy the Stoptech kit or should i just get the ECS kit? I can do the ECS kit with regular slotted rotors for about $300 less than the one i listed above. I was looking at those rotors since they weigh less. I attached the link to ECS for the front brake kit.
Ideas, thoughts.. Suggestions.. Anyone.. Thanks.

look into B5 S4 front brakes...
the calipers and rotors can swap right over. i would imagine you need the carriers for the calipers as well but dont wuote me on that.
im sure if you search you can find out more about this upgrade. i know the s4 calipers and rotors are both bigger than your stockers so should be a nice upgrade for a reasonable price. there are also several sets of s4 brakes in the classifieds right now.
hope this helps

Na, not from experience, though I am looking into a 996 caliper based solution...
It's nice and light, compared to the HP2, and it's a monobloc which makes it quite the sturdy caliper. Plus, we all know Porsches are quite well known for their brakes. I'm leaning towards the 996 instead of the 996TT because the former pairs up with the 321mm rotor HP2 brakes use, which means there are tons of choices for rotors. Doesn't hurt that users overall are very happy with this setup from what I've read.
As to the Alcons, those are just "personal favourites" if you will; IIRC they're monoblocs, unlike the Brembo kits, eg. The comment about these are mostly because they look sharp and Steve's car is an AW project car.

I had porsche monoblocks on my last car, but i am not sure if i want them on this car.
One major thing about the Porsche calipers is when you try and find pads they seem to automatically cost more for the same pad to fit that fitment since it is a porsche fitment.
I was thinking about just the stoptech kit and there are alot of pads avalaible and it seems easy enough to get replacement rotor rings.
