Electronic Stability Protection--Always on, or only in dicey conditions?

The dealer who sold me my 2006 A4 told me to only use ESP when conditions are bad, but the owners manual recommends leaving it on at all times, except in the few cases where wheel slippage is needed to gain traction. I'm inclined to defer to the manual, but then curious as to why the dealer would recommend otherwise. Anyone have a thought about this?

You never know when you'll go around a corner and hit a slippery spot, a wet patch of leaves, or whatever. On the street, there are no disadvantages.
The only time I ever turn it off is on track, where ESP activation in almost every corner will eventually overheat the brakes and cut the throttle. On track in the rain, though, I'll usually leave ESP On for the first session just in case something's greasier than I expect.

is after you've done some HPDEs and feel comfortable turning it off.
let it do it's job and save your butt, if needed.
