Hello everybody, I bought a 98 A4, when driving I noticed the brake pedal pulsating/bad sound, this must mean that the problem is coming from the front. The rotors needed replacement and I was convinced the problem was a result of warped rotors and worn out pads (which I knew when buying it). I took it to my mechanic who replaced pads/rotors all around and he felt problem was solved (took for test drive). However, when I drive it the problem comes up here and there, usually at slow speeds when trying to make a stop. I will feel the brake pedal pulsating and hear that dirty griding type of sound. If anybody has an idea as to where the problem may lie, and possible an estimate to the cost of this I would GREATLY appreciate it. Feel free to email me and thanks just for looking.

Hi, recently bought an 1997 A4 Q Tdi avant and it has the same problem.. I've had the front end opened up and really can't see any thing, would need a ramp or pit to fully inspect. I think the problem is ABS/brake sensor related. After sustained hi-speed (motorway) runs my ABS light comes on, (unless I stop, kill the engine and restart it doesn't go off). While the ABS light is on, standard braking with no knocking (or occasional juddering) happens, not sure if I've got ABS in this situation but I'd guess not.
I'm planning on going to an Indi. V.A.G. specialist, if I get any info I'll post it.
