Default Porsche Boxter S brakes on a B5

Two questions:

1)
I've had these on my car for 3 years now, I've recently changed the rotors and pads after 30,000 miles and now they squeal quite bad. Changed pads, and rotors, but only slight changes in noise. They only squeal when I'm coming to a stop --> so only when the speeds are less than 35 mph. or they squeal at high speeds if I barely press on the brake pedal.

The last three years were a delightful breake system to own. But now I'm considering exchanging them for the OEM version.

2) Does any one know where I can get OEM calipers, caliper carriers, for cheap?

Best regards,

Default I've tried 3 different sets...

Porsche OEM, Porterfields R4S, and Pagid S...

I hear no difference at all. It is not the typical brake pad squeal, what i hear can only be described as a rotor grinding against metal, but the rotors look fine. I even replaced the cross-drilled rotors with OEM B5 S4 rotors to see if the agressive rotors were the culprit.

I habe the BIRA brake system that uses a custom caliper carrier to mount Porsche Boxter S calipers on B5 S4 rotors (relatively cheap rotors to replace...)

Any ideas?

Default I have an idea, since

I have the same calipers:

Could it be the locator pin, or it might be called a centering pin. You can see it in my picture. When these were installed, the guy had to grind off 1-2mm of material so they would not touch the face of the rotor. Notice, also, how close the bolt, just to the left of the locator pin, is to the rotor face. Maybe your bolt is too long and it touches the face upon braking?

Default That's probably it, if not, post it to BIRA's mailing list

You are a BIRA member, correct? may as well take advantage of their resources.

Default 4AudiQ has an interesting picture...

I also had to remove 2mm from the pins (3 yrs ago) as per BIRA's instructions, however, the bolt is something new. It is very possible that the new rotors might be just slightly thicker than the old ones and these bolts are touching.

I will get under there this weekend. If its not the bolts or the pins, I will ask BIRA.

Thanks a lot. I'll keep you updated...
