A6 detailing day...
I've spend 5 hours detailing the A6 today, starting with a clay bar but it didn't went well, scratched the surface, it was my first time with that, gotta go see the detailing forum for that. So I went with Mothers paint cleaner, followed by Mothers scratch remover, Meguiar's Polish and ended with Meguiar's Gold Class wax. Fully cleaned the interior using Meguiar's rubber and vinyl cleaner on dash and doors. Mothers leather cleaner and conditioner. It almost look like a new one; few chips marks on the front bumper and marks left on the front bumper by someone that backed on the A6, I've been able to hide it a little bit but not that much, it will need a rubbing compound. There are some pics of the job.

Clay bar works well,but.....
you have to keep it lubricated and CLEAN! If you drop it chuck it!
I use a spray bottle with dish soap and H20 solution to keep the paint wet and the clay bar moving. Stop occasionally to rework the clay. It's easy to tell when it's done the job. The paint is smooth like a baby's bum and you don't feel any roughness.

I always try to keep the clay supple by reworking it often...
I wonder if you didn't just get unlucky and picked up a bit of grit on the first pass and then it scratched the paint.

I was always trying to rework the clay, but even on a new side of the clay, it was scratching,
there was lots of lube and the clay was sliding easily but scratching also.

I clean and detail summer wheels when I took them off for winter,
so that way I have super clean wheels in the basement and they are ready to go on the car in spring.
