Default I'll say it again-pricing. Audi needs to respond to exchange rates...

An A4 quattro starts in Canada at $40700 and in the US at $30300. $30300 US = $35000 CAD. To make it worse, the Canadian Dollar has gained 15% against the Euro in the last 3 years (see Saturday's Globe) yet Canadians are not seeing the benefit.

An A4 2.0 quattro in Germany starts at 33000 Euro. At today's exchange this is $39700 US and $45000 CAD. No matter how you look at it, Audi is not recognizing the stronger Canadian dollar. I have been thinking of a new car this fall, but this is making me think again. And don't even get me started on the TT I was dreaming of...

Default that is true..

but from what I understand it is normal practice they do that to offset any future loses they might encounter with relation to value of CDN dollar against Euro in the future, from what I know reading from paper that they don't go by US dollar vs CDN dollar , they go CDN dollar vs Euro dollar,
it sucks here in Canada as we know we look to South to compare their prices against ours..
I have little doubts that they ever change this practice. I think in this case they should offer more standard features.. but will they do it..
I have doubts in that too.
The only thing that many will consider to buy used as oppose new

Default Again with the exchange rate ...

We live in Canada not the US. Audi's come from Germany, why should the Canada/US exchange rate have anything to do with something that comes from Europe?
It's true, the base price for an A4 2.0t quattro is 33,000 euros, but leather is extra 2,200 euros, metallic is 650 euros, it's CD$650 here. Multifunction steering wheel which is standard here is 505 euros. Audi Symphony sound system is standard here, in Germany it is 1,100 euros. Heated mirrors 280 euros, 16" alloys 550 euros, climate control 150 euros, floor mats 40 euros, power driver seat 280 euros, heated seats 320 euros, cruise control 250 euros, etc.

I can go on adding more options but I have to go to sleep.

Default Why not buy one in the states and import it up?

I notice the pricing imbalence as well. Went looking for an air filter for our 986 here in BC and they(at dealer) want $90, whereas the same filter in the states is $19. Just explains why I see so many BC plates at shopping malls in WA. My guess is the CA dollar might be equal to the US dollar at some point in the future, and Audi will still do nothing to there CA pricing.

Default Re: Again with the exchange rate ...

We might be in Canada, but the market between the states is very transparent(importation and parts market). I understand there is a scale issue to deal with to make the network profitable but the Canadaian dollar hit a 14 year high against the euro last week which does not go well for your arguement.

I don't see the point of worrying about something you can't change or control.

Don't forget the added cost of power rear windows! And the split folding rear seat.
