It seems as though you need about 3 tanks to get the real numbers that will stay consistent. I'm judging power by feel, not timed runs or anything.

Sunoco 94: The worst mileage, and obviously no more power being as octane doesn't increase power. I would get about 500-520km per tank.

Sunoco 92: The best mileage, excellent power. I would average 600-650km per tank, more if I take it easy.

Esso 92: Good mileage, same power as Sunoco 92. I would average about 580-615km per tank.

Shell 91: Crap.

Petro Can 91: They raise prices first, won't try 'em.

Beaver, Ultramar, all the rest: I haven't tried them.

Default I did a similar study a while back and found that I could go the furthest...

... on shell 91. I used to use sunoco 94 until this. Now I use shell 91. Shell is also one of the cleaner fuels. I don't like the ethanol blended fuels.

Default I must say, I did this study when there was questionable stuff going on at Shell.

They apologized for the quality of their fuel even. I just got almost no power from it.

Default some guy told me that Sunoco's additives slowly eats away at the fuel lines...

could be B.S., but he said some chemical engineer was studying the cleaning additives and found that Sunoco's in particular are harmful for fuel lines if used constantly for over 5 years or so...if that was the case, I'm sure there wouldve been a class-action suit by now.. who knows... i tend to hedge myself and use Shell, Esso, Petro-Can, then Sunoco.

Default interesting

I've always run Sunoco 94 in my car since I bought it 2 years ago. It seemed to run pretty good on it. I've tried Esso 92 when I can't find a Sunoco station. Car seemed to run fine on it too. Last week, I read that ethanol blends will yield slightly worse fuel economy (2-3%) because ethanol blend is an oxygenated gasoline which contains less energy. Check out www.chevron.com for some good info on gasolines. I also heard that Petro-Can uses some good additives. So I filled up my car last week with their 91 but found the car was not as responsive. So, I went back to Sunoco 94 (which I got a regular unleaded price because they ran out of regular unleaded fuel ). I'm going to try Sunoco 92 next time and see what happens there. I read that at one point, Esso had the dirtiest fuel but that's probably changed. I won't try Shell especially after the incident with the fuel gauge sensor. Haven't really tried any other brands.

Default Keep in mind you don't seem to get proper results until about 3 tanks full in a row.

I found that after 3 tanks, the mileage changed very little. It's like the car takes time to adjust to the new fuel.

Default Over 80000km i've averaged 10.1L/100km...

... max km was 683km with 7L of fuel to spare, all highway. Average is around 457km with 45L of gas used, with 50/50 city/highway.
