ah i see, thanks mike. And i take it EDL is part of the ESP system?

Default Sort of kind of....

ESP takes care of traction and stability - that you can turn off.

EDL is always on, though up to a certain speed. 25 mph for FWD and 50 mph for quattros. I think some people expect that EDL is also disabled when you disable ESP but you can't. The only way to disable EDL is to pull the fuse for the ABS.

Default At that point you're using momentum to get you through

I was gonna suggest flooring it and hitting the obstacle at speed also

Still the weakness of the quattro system (more with the open diffs used) exists of course.
