Experiment # 1 in controlling the heat in the intake manifold...
Since in theory, I'm supposed to get my new Dahlback intake manifold Monday or at the latest Tuesday and part of the install will include EVO Tuning's heat shield/gasket, I decided today to take and log some data on the air intake of my car. I decided on collecting data in two different ways. First, I used an infrared/laser heat thermometer and selected 9 reference points on my OEM intake manifold. Second, I used the VAG-COM and logged measuring block 004 for the Air Intake temperature and water temperature. I also used data provided to me from a digital thermometer connected to one of my two ICs (left side). It will be interesting to see if the heat shield does what it is marketed to do, keep the intake manifold cooler and thus the air intake temperature cooler. A few pictures followed by the data…
As you can see in this picture, I did mark 9 separate reference points to take the temperature readings as consistent as possible. R1 is by the throttle body, R2-3-4-5 are on the plenum and R6-7-8-9 are on the runners as far down as I could make them.

Finally, today's gathered data.
