Default Importing a S5... A few questions...

I would like to import a S5. Everything is fine when checking with the "RIV" **BUT** two questions remain:

1) Is Audi giving warranty on the car when imported?

2) Oil changes and regular maintenance that is usually done free of charge, is it still the case if the car comes from the US?

I find non-sense that even with the 6.1% importing fee and 2500$ of paperwork/badluck or whatever, there's a 13,000$ difference.....

Default Warranty is a North American warranty last I checked.

I even called Audi to confirm.

Scheduled maintenance, not sure. Who cares, if it's just 6 oil changes you are still way ahead.

Good luck with the importing...it's a bit of a pita, but, like you calculated, well worth it.

Default Service is now an option and not included.

I believe only the first service is 'free'.

I have heard that all US 09 models and later will *NOT* be covered for Warranty.

Default the warranty is a North American Warranty yes...

the Audi Care maintenance which is optional now (since 2007 m.y.) is a $750 charge as long as the car is within its first year or 20,000kms since registration. What Audi has recently done with this is not honored the cross border Audi Care, you will have to pay for the cost of the service and apply to A.O.A. to be reimbursed for it.

Default Just imported a 2008 A4...

A-You will save a lot of $$$
B-You will lose a couple of half days for paper work, travelling, inspection, registration...
C-Warranty will wrok for MY 2008.
D-My salesman told me the waranty will not be transferable into another contry for MY 2009. I suggest you check with your dealer.
E-Audi care is NOT tranferable into another contry, so don't buy this option.
F-I did business with Rick at Lewis Motors in Burlington. Problem free. I recommend him.

Keep us posted!!

Default Someone gave you incorrect information...

The Service (if already paid for) is applicable in Canada, dont fall victim to anyone who suggests otherwise.

The warranty is transferable, it is on Audi's corporate webpage.

The certified program warranty is also transferable. (again on webpage)

As for losing half days, you should only lose one if you plan it properly, and that is for the actual drive across the border (which includes getting the Form 1, transport Canada import form, duties and GST paid. If you dont personally drive it (for example, you have the car shipped), you dont need to miss any days of work. All steps after border crossing can be done from the comfort of any home or office which has a functional fax, and the inspections can be done on the weekend at any local Canadian Tire.
