Just got a ticket for driving without my license...
I left my wallet in my other car (idiot!). Is there some sort of grace period that is given to any individual to voluntary bring a valid license in for verification? Is this true or may I mistaken? God damn $110 fine!

HTA says you must have it with you
There is no grace period, however some officers are more understanding than others. Take it to court if he won't let you off. There is more leniency with ownership and insurance BTW.

It has been about 20 years since they removed the 24/48 hrs. report!...
...and that was a Police insentive - nothing to do with the HTA etc... Toronto Police removed it due to cost and confusion - they couldn't keep up with the reports coming in!!
May I suggest you go to the courthouse ASAP and plead guilty with an explanation - usually the Justice of the Peace will reduce the fine to about half if not wipe it out completely. I suggest if your financial status is not good then tell the J.P. so. It does help!
Hopefully you have no convictions on your record because that shows you are a "decent" person and this was just a one off situation.
If you set up a court date and the officer does show up ask him nicely if he will withdraw the ticket - show him your licence and hopefully he will consider it.
The officer's conviction rate is not the important number - it is the number of tickets issued and no there is no "quota"! It is called performance rating!

Proof of license requires that you produce within a reasonable time
Check that ticket. if the charge is driving while unlicensed you can beat it by producing a valid license for the day of the alleged offence. If you are charged with failing to produce it depends on the Judge whether he will let you off if you went asap to the local police station with a valid license.
