I am thinking of trading in my 2004 C32 for a 2004 S4 avant. here are the spec of both cars.

2004 C32 Black/Black
27000km
Fully loaded including navi

2004 S4 Avant Black/Black with Grey Alcantara
47000km
Manual
asking price $52000

I check the black book and the S4 avant highest wholesale price is $38000 and my C32 is $44000. So i calculate that there car wholesale price + $4000 and my car whole sale price minus $4000 i would only have to add $2000 for the trade in. But I went to test the S4 and they wanted my car + $11000 tax in for the S4 so i just left without counter offer since is so far from what i was thinking. Is the dealer being crazy!? Anyone know around how much i need to add on top of my trade in!? also how realiably are 2004 s4? are there any know issues? thanks.

sell your car privately. Find an S4 Avant from a private seller. The dealer will rape you. They wanted to give me about $40K for my 2004 S4 with only 25,000km on it on trade for an RS4.

Not everyone has to resort to that, most can afford to buy the cars in Canada.

Avants are limited supply so going to the US might get him either better selection or a better price.
